We packed the car, picked up Dave & Lynn Hutchinson around 10 AM on Friday, May 13th, and headed east for our weekend at Cocoa, FL and our tour of the Kennedy Space Center. Traffic was smooth sailing and we arrived in time for lunch at Jazzy’s Mainely Lobster restaurant.Dan’s recommendation for dinner Saturday was the Lobster Shanty. When I called them to make our reservation they informed me that the new name was Squid Lips (part of a small chain from Melbourne,FL) so we decided we better check it out before Saturday. They are situated on the Intracoastal and the deck out back has some awesome views. The manager showed us our dining room for Saturday and we opted for the set up to be one long table. At the Days Inn we were able to get early check in and negotiated with them for use of the breakfast rooms for the group to hang out after dinner both nights. All we had to do was clean up our empty wine bottles (there were many!) and make sure the tables were back in order for breakfast the next day. It gave us a nice area rather than in one of our rooms sitting on the beds. Dinner Friday was “on your own” with everyone choosing various restaurants in the area. After breakfast on Saturday we headed north to the Space Center. I picked up our prepaid tickets, distributed them, took a couple group shots, and we were off on our day of space exploration. And what an eventful day it was – Imax movies, a very interesting volunteer docent who gave us the whole history of space exploration, a bus ride out to the launch pad, and too many more adventures to mention. We didn’t come close to seeing it all. If you haven’t been there lately (for us I think it has been about 20 years) there is so much to see and do.Put it somewhere on your list of Florida sights to see. Dinner at Squid Lips was delicious and we shared our adventures of the day. If you were unable to come to this event, you missed a great one. Hope you will join us in the future.
