By Linda Cooper: Several months ago my daughter mentioned to me that she and her family had had an awesome German meal at the Old Castle Restaurant in Ruskin/Sun City area. So when club members were looking for an “inside event,” i.e. out of the Florida heat, we decided to it a try. September 20th 24 members plus my daughter and her husband, enjoyed a wonderful culinary experience. Our appetizer was a VERY LARGE soft pretzel with a variety of dipping sauces. New members, Jane & Dave Park, shared their fried sauerkraut balls. I know this sounds strange, but they were delicious. Sauerbraten, schnitzel (veal, chicken, and the usual pork to choose from), bratwurst (the authentic German kind), and the best red cabbage since our surprisingly good small German restaurant on Main Street in Fredricksburg, TX! There was a variety of German beersand wine and of course desserts to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth. If you were not at this event, you missed a great experience. Make plans to join the group for future events. Photos by Dave Hutchinson.
