Report and Photos By Dave Hutchinson:

On Saturday, January 19th the Tampa Bay Section toured the historic American Victory Ship in the Tampa Channelside District. 42 members joined us for the tour that began at noon on a beautiful, warm day. We split into two groups, each with a wonderful guide. The American Victory Ship
is one of only 4 fully-operational WWII ships in the country. It is a true American icon and is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. We toured most of the ship including
cavernous three-level cargo holds, radio and gyro rooms, hospital, galley, weaponry, steering stations, flying bridge, signaling equipment, wheelhouse, mess halls, crew cabins, lifeboats, the Captain’s quarters, cargo equipment, and the engine. Also displayed are rare artifacts, exciting exhibits, uniforms, medals, documents, and photographs. I am sure everyone went home raving
about this great experience. Following the tour, we had a late lunch at the Columbia Café…one of the most accommodating restaurants in the Channelside area. Lynn and I each had the Half-and-Half which includes a ½ Cuban Sandwich and Columbia’s famous 1905 Salad. We hope that you will join us soon for one of our very popular monthly events.
