By Dave & Lynn Hutchinson:  Lynn and I have owned Mercedes-Benz vehicles since1984…always 300 Diesels. I will never forget my response when I picked up the newspaper one morning in 1996 and read that Mercedes was going to build a  that will hark back to the iconic Ford Sunliner of the 50s. This would be the first car to be fitted with a retractable hard top since that time! I wanted one. I told Lynn that day that I wanted a new SLK. We drove to Lokey Motors and talked toa salesman about buying one. He showed me the color combinations. I fell in love with Brilliant Silver and a Salsa (red & black) interior. So, I ordered one and was told that I would have to wait until one was built in the custom color combination that I wanted. Little did I know that the wait would be 16 months! During that time period the salesman called me once and said that a silver SLK had just come in with a black interior. I told him, thanks, but no thanks. I was determined to wait. When my beautiful car arrived it was a 1998 model and I was in love. So, I have one of the first SLKs to arrivein Tampa Bay. It has always been garagedand has always been dealer maintained. When I worked I only drove the car on Fridays with the top down as long as it didn’t rain. It has been a proud winner in several of the Tampa Bay Section’s rallies (Lynn is a great navigator!). As of this writing my 22 year old 1998 SLK has less than 19,000 miles on the odometer. A dream come true.
